Public libraries: We need them more than ever
November 10, 2011
Ethos principal, Catherine Evans, serves as Chair of the Vancouver Public Library. Lately, a number of jurisdictions have attempted to rationalize the closure or cuts to public libraries by arguing that the digital age has made libraries obsolete. Catherine has responded to this thinking in an op ed published today.
“Indeed the development of the Internet – far from threatening libraries as some opponents of public services wishfully want us to believe – has created a whole new need for libraries, librarians, and the information management and facilitation services they offer.“
Read Catherine’s op ed in today’s Vancouver Sun.
